NTF members made excellent presentations at the City of Omaha public budget hearing. However, we need more NTF members to volunteer to watchdog local taxing authorities at public budget hearings.
Remember the saying, “A nation of sheep breeds a government of wolves?” Only 3 taxpayers attended the 8-11 Papio-Mo. River NRD board meeting to offer testimony against its budget that will raise spending from $59 million to $82 million! The board vote was 6-3 FOR the budget. 2 board members did not even show up to vote. Get a copy of our NTF testimony at netaxpayers@gmail.com.
Here are the future opportunities:
- The Learning Community plans to raise its budget by 80%, to $9.7 million, mostly expenditures for minority youth. Its public budget hearing is Thu. Aug. 18, 6:30 PM, at the UNO Alumni Center, 67th & Dodge Streets.
- The Millard School Board budget hearing is Monday, Aug. 15, 5:15 PM at 5606 South 147 Street.
- The OP$ budget hearing is Monday, Aug. 15, 6 PM, at the TAC Bldg., 32nd & Cuming Streets.
